  16. 1 - What is Matrix Screensaver ?

  18. Matrix Screensaver is, as you guess, a screensaver that try to reproduce the computer code seen in the movie Matrix. It's supposed to work on any Power Macintosh with Mac OS 7.6 or higher with Applescript installed and active.

  20. Matrix Screensaver was made with REALBasic™. It's a freeware and so can be distributed freely.

  23. 2 - How do I use it ?

  25. Matrix Screensaver is just an application, so launch it and leave it in the background. It could be a good idea to put an alias of it in the Startup Items folder of your System folder.

  28. 3 - What are the possible settings ?

  30. Many settings are available. Choose Settings... in the File menu to see the settings panel.

  60.      - Time Before Sleep : the number of minutes of inactivity before Matrix code is displayed.
  61.      - Password protected : if this checkbox is checked, you can enter a password by clicking the Enter Password button. If you click this button, you will be presented with this window :

  80. You must enter the password you want in the two fields and click the OK button. The password you've typed will be asked each time you will deactivate the screensaver.
  81.      - Sleep Now Corner : the corner of the main screen where you should move your mouse to get Matrix Code displayed immediately.
  82.      - No Sleep Corner : the corner of the main screen where you should move your mouse to prevent Matrix Code to activate.

  111.  That contains sliders to control the appearance of the Matrix code. Here you can set :
  112.      - Number of Lines : the speed at which new lines are created.
  113.      - Lines Fade Speed : the average speed at which lines are going to fade.
  114.      - Lines Life Time : the average time a line will wait between its completion and its fade.
  115.      - Lines Length : the maximum length of the lines of code (in number of characters).
  116.      - Lines Speed : the average speed at which new symbols are added to lines.
  117.      - Appearance : the shape of symbols that will make the lines.

  129. a - What's new in version 1.7.1 (since version 1.7) ?
  130.      - The File and Apple menu are now enabled and disabled properly;
  131.      - New icon (rebuild desktop to see it);
  132.      - Password protection can no longuer be avoided by hitting command-Q;
  133.      - The screensaver no longer crash when hitting command-F or command-K;

  137.      - The "Symbols" font has been changed to a Thai font which is supposed to be more realistic;

  141.      - Errors when the screensaver activate or deactivate should occur less often;

  146.      - Lines of code don’t have the same brightness;
  147.      - Lines of code now disappear from the top of the screen;
  148.      - If you choose the font "Courier", lines of code will only display numbers;

  150.      - Works on multi-monitors configurations;
  151.      - Fixed a possible source of crash;

  156. 6 - Known bugs
  157.  
  158. - Matrix Screensaver doesn't listen to the keyboard inputs. So, if you use only the keyboard for several minutes, the screensaver should activate itself. If you have a lot of text to type, I suggest you move your mouse to the "No Sleep Corner" to prevent the screensaver to activate.
  159. - The mouse cursor may not disapear when Matrix code is displayed.
  160. - If you have a big monitor, or more than one monitor, it could be necessary to increase the amount of RAM dedicated to Matrix Screensaver to avoid error of type 2 or 3 when the screensaver activate.
